Wuxi sets 2030 GDP goal of 2t yuan

The 15th Wuxi Municipal Congress of the Communist Party of China opened on Sept 22, tasked with reviewing the past five years, setting goals for the next five and electing a new municipal committee and disciplinary inspection commission.

Jiang Feng, a member of the Standing Committee of the Congress Presidium, delivered a report on behalf of the 14th CPC Wuxi Municipal Committee. He said the past five years have witnessed notable progress in economic strength, reform and opening-up, regional connectivity, environmental protection, cultural heritage, democracy and the rule of law, common prosperity, and Party building.

As a major economic city underpinning Jiangsu's modernization drive, Wuxi will shoulder greater responsibility and remain at the forefront of high-quality development, Jiang said. The 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) period is crucial for laying a solid foundation for basic socialist modernization, he added.

For the next five years, Wuxi targets an average annual GDP growth rate of 5 percent, with total economic output exceeding 2 trillion yuan ($298.51 billion) by 2030. Per capita GDP is expected to remain among the highest of China's large and medium-sized cities. Residents' per capita disposable income should grow in line with the economy, while the urban-rural income gap steadily narrows.

By 2035, after another five years of effort, per capita GDP should double and per capita disposable income more than double from 2020 levels. The city also aims to achieve major gains in economic strength, technological innovation capacity, and overall urban competitiveness, and to make significant progress toward building a strong, prosperous, beautiful and high-quality modern Wuxi and to basically realize socialist modernization.
