When space meets music: An unforgettable evening at Wuxi Symphony Hall

I had the opportunity to attend the global premiere of the complete version of Flying Apsaras, an original symphonic work inspired by China's space program, at the Wuxi Symphony Hall on Sept 10. As an international student living in Wuxi, I have experienced many different sides of the city. Still, this evening gave me a new way to appreciate China through music and culture.

When I arrived at the venue, the atmosphere was already exciting. The modern architecture of Wuxi Symphony Hall, together with the evening lights, created an impressive setting. I was looking forward to seeing how an orchestra could transform the story of China's space exploration into music.

Flying Apsaras has a particularly interesting concept. The title evokes the traditional Flying Apsaras, while the symphonic work draws inspiration from China's achievements and aspirations in space exploration. It creates a bridge between China's rich cultural heritage and its modern spirit of innovation.

As the performance began, the atmosphere inside the hall changed completely. The powerful sound of the orchestra filled the space. Some passages felt calm and reflective, while others were energetic and dramatic. Even though I'm not a professional musician, I could clearly feel the emotions and sense of movement in the music.

What impressed me most was the connection between tradition, science and imagination. China's space program is a story of curiosity, teamwork and the desire to explore the unknown. Through the orchestra, these ideas became something that could be experienced emotionally rather than explained through facts and figures.

For me, the experience also had a personal meaning. Studying in China as an international student has been a journey of discovery. Living in Wuxi has allowed me to learn not only in the classroom and laboratory, but also through everyday cultural experiences. Events like this concert provide international students with an opportunity to understand China from another perspective.

After the performance, I took some photographs around the "City of Music • Wuxi, China" landmark. The lights, water and modern surroundings made the evening even more memorable. Standing there after the concert, I felt that I had experienced another important part of Wuxi beyond its universities, technology and beautiful scenery.

I also realized that cultural exchange does not always require a common language. Music can communicate emotions and ideas across nationalities. Flying Apsaras allowed an international audience to share a story about Chinese culture, scientific achievement and the dream of reaching the stars.

This evening will remain one of my memorable experiences in Wuxi. I'm grateful for the opportunity to attend the global premiere and to experience an original Chinese symphonic work inspired by the country's journey into space. For an international student, experiences like this make living and studying in China much more meaningful.

Flying Apsaras was not simply a concert for me; it was a memorable journey from Chinese cultural heritage to the stars' dreams.
