A new energy vehicle cable project broke ground in Meicun subdistrict, Xinwu district, Wuxi, on Aug 25, boosting the development of the local automotive parts industry.

The project, invested by Beijing S.P.L. Wire & Cable, carries a planned total investment of 150 million yuan ($22.35 million). It will include the construction of around 24,000 square meters of facilities, including intelligent production plants and a fully automated three-dimensional warehouse, as well as the installation of 30 production lines for new energy vehicle cables.

S.P.L. specializes in the R&D and manufacturing of automotive wires and cables. Its customers include major companies such as Luxshare Precision, China Aviation Optical-Electrical Technology, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and BYD. The company currently ranks first in market share in China's commercial vehicle automotive cable segment.

Meicun subdistrict is already home to more than 150 automotive parts manufacturers. The area has developed a mature industrial ecosystem covering batteries, motors, electronic controls, vehicle bodies, chassis and precision components.
