WND launches AI comic drama innovation week to accelerate creative industry growth

Wuxi National Hi-Tech District (WND) has kicked off its 2026 AI Comic Drama Innovation Week at the Wuxi Symphony Hall, showcasing the district's ambition to become a leading hub for AI-powered digital storytelling and creative content.

The opening ceremony also witnessed the signing of several collaboration projects. Xin'an subdistrict partnered with Weishi Media to launch a cybersecurity-themed AI comic series for students.

Meanwhile, Hongshan Tourism Resort joined hands with the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts and Wuxi Vocational College of Science and Technology to establish an AI comic creation and digital nomad camp, as well as a talent training academy.

The event also featured the awards ceremony for an AI creative competition, which attracted more than 200 submissions. Awards were presented across a range of categories including AI-generated images, videos and music, as well as honors for Best Creativity and Best Technical Application.

Running from July 13, the innovation week includes 11 activities across WND's eight subdistricts, offering skills training, cultural heritage programs, industry exchanges and other events designed to foster creativity, talent development and collaboration throughout the district's growing AI content ecosystem.

As AI-generated comic dramas and short-form series gain popularity for their cost efficiency, rapid production and strong online appeal, WND is positioning itself at the forefront of this fast-growing industry.

The district has built a solid ecosystem supported by advanced computing infrastructure, including Volcano Engine and the AMD Intelligent Computing Center, alongside a diverse network of platforms such as the Wuxi (National) Software Park and the Digital Sports and Cultural Creative Industry Base.

The district is now home to over 20 companies specializing in short dramas and AI comic productions. The sector's annual revenue is expected to surpass 500 million yuan ($73.79 million).
