Hongshan archaeological exhibition brings ancient Wu culture closer to public

A special exhibition highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the Hongshan Archaeological Site opened in Binhu district, Wuxi, on July 15, offering visitors a journey into the history of the ancient Wu civilization. The exhibition is scheduled to remain open through July 30.

As the leading institution dedicated to preserving and showcasing the cultural legacy of the ancient Wu and Yue states, the Hongshan Site Museum in Wuxi houses an extensive collection of archaeological treasures, cultural products and educational resources. By bringing selected exhibits beyond the museum walls and into a public space, the exhibition aims to make the region's early civilization more accessible to a wider audience.

The exhibition features illustrated display panels tracing the archaeological excavation of the Hongshan Site and introducing some of its most significant discoveries, including ritual vessels, jade artifacts and ancient musical instruments. Visitors can gain insight into the lives and ceremonial traditions of Wu-Yue aristocrats more than 2,000 years ago.

To encourage public participation, the exhibition offers a variety of interactive activities. Visitors can experience traditional rubbing techniques using a replica of the museum's iconic Jade Flying Phoenix. A 3D artifact puzzle also allows participants to simulate the restoration process, providing a hands-on introduction to archaeological conservation.

Following the exhibition, the Hongshan Site Museum will collect outstanding works created during this summer's educational programs, including calligraphy, paintings, cultural relic handicrafts and study journals by young participants. These works are set to be featured in a special traveling exhibition, further promoting public engagement with the region's archaeological heritage.
