Wuxi Shuofang Airport has recently reached a new milestone in its expansion project, aimed at supporting the airport's 2030 goal of handling 500,000 metric tons of cargo and mail, as well as continued growth in aviation traffic.
The project incorporates a cutting-edge energy system, featuring distributed rooftop photovoltaics, on-site energy storage, electric vehicle charging facilities, and a demonstration AC/DC microgrid. An intelligent microgrid management platform has also been developed to participate in green electricity trading via virtual power plants, contributing to the city's evolving power infrastructure.
The new cargo terminal building, covering approximately 80,000 square meters, has been fully completed. The facility will centralize customs, border inspection, and security functions for cargo operations. Its rooftop, spanning 40,000 square meters, is equipped with 8,492 solar panels.
Behind the terminal, a newly constructed cargo aircraft apron covers 240,000 square meters and provides 24 aircraft parking positions, significantly enhancing the airport's cargo handling capacity.
