Japan's Kobe Steel (Kobelco) signed an agreement for its new marine compressor and resin mixer project in Wuxi National Hi-Tech District (WND) on Oct 30.
As Japan's third-largest steel conglomerate, Kobe Steel has built its core businesses around steel and forging, expanding into materials, machinery, and electric power. With a history spanning more than a century, the group operates 251 subsidiaries and affiliated companies worldwide.
Kobelco Wuxi Compressor, a subsidiary of Kobe Steel, manufactures a wide range of gas compressors for customers in various industries. Its products are widely used in the petrochemical, refining, and energy sectors.
During the signing ceremony, Shogo Sarumaru, head of Kobelco's machinery business, expressed his appreciation for WND's long-term support. He noted that after years of development in Wuxi, the company has been deeply impressed by the district's strong industrial foundation, efficient government services, and vibrant innovation ecosystem. "WND has become an important base for Kobelco's growth in China," he said.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of Kobelco Wuxi Compressor. Sarumaru said the group will continue to strengthen its presence in the Chinese market, enhance R&D and local manufacturing collaboration, and further expand its global reach to better contribute to regional economic and social development.
Cui Rongguo, Party secretary of WND, said that the district's high-end equipment manufacturing industry has exceeded 170 billion yuan ($23.91 billion) in output, forming a complete industrial chain from advanced design and precision manufacturing to intelligent applications. "This robust ecosystem provides a solid foundation and environment for enterprises like Kobelco Wuxi Compressor to thrive," he added.
