The Jiangsu Provincial Department of Commerce has recently revealed the initial list of industrial clusters chosen for integrated domestic and international trade development. Out of 18 clusters across the province, two from Wuxi National Hi-Tech District (WND), also called Xinwu district, were included — specifically, the integrated circuit industry cluster and the biomedical industry cluster.
WND's integrated circuit cluster comprises over 500 companies involved in both local and global trade. Key players include Chipown Microelectronics, Huahong (Wuxi), and SK hynix. The cluster benefits from three public service platforms that provide shared labs, EDA design services, project incubation, and additional support.
In 2024, IC-related imports and exports in WND continued to expand, with the overall output value of the IC industry cluster reaching 165 billion yuan ($23.03 billion), accounting for over two-thirds of the city's total.
Meanwhile, the biomedical industry cluster in WND encompasses a diverse array of products, such as innovative pharmaceuticals and formulations, medical devices, diagnostics, and smart healthcare solutions. It comprises 720 companies, with leading firms including AstraZeneca, Nutricia, and GE Healthcare.

WND has developed extensive innovation platforms by utilizing its research institutions and universities. These platforms facilitate the entire biomedical innovation process, from R&D and manufacturing to clinical trials and regulatory approval.

In 2024, the biomedical sector in WND exceeded 100 billion yuan in total output, accounting for nearly half of the city's overall production.
