AstraZeneca kicked off construction of its new $475-million small molecule drug factory in WND on May 8. The site will feature cutting-edge continuous direct compression tech, sustainable packaging lines, and full digital integration. It is expected to reinforce AstraZeneca's global supply chain and power the high-quality growth of Wuxi's biopharma industry. To date, AstraZeneca has invested over $1 billion in Wuxi, making the city its hub for production, distribution, sales, and innovation in China.

WND and Wuxi Sunan International Airport Group held in-depth talks on May 6 to deepen their partnership. Together, they will build an air cargo terminal in the district's Comprehensive Bonded Zone, while advancing airport economy, low-altitude aviation, and retail innovation.

German company VEM launched its 150-million-euro ($168.4 million) high-end motor project in WND on May 8. Focusing on the development of high-end motors, new power control systems, and offshore wind power generators, the factory is expected to generate 1.5 billion yuan in annual sales revenue. As of 2024, 42 German-invested companies had been established in WND, with total investment reaching $2.21 billion.

WND now boasts seven industries each exceeding 100 billion yuan ($13.8 billion) in annual output. These include the district's six pillar industries – IoT, integrated circuits, biomedicine, intelligent equipment, auto parts, and new energy – as well as the software and IT services sector.

The WND team supporting Yichuan county in Shaanxi province was recently recognized as an outstanding contributor to 2024 Jiangsu-Shaanxi cooperation efforts, thanks to its effective measures and impressive results.

The baseball team from Meicun Experimental Primary School in WND dominated in the Little League China Grand Finals with a flawless 6–0 record, beating 41 teams from 16 cities to claim the championship. This marks their 11th national title and showcases the success of Jiangsu's sports-education integration.

Tourism boomed in WND during the May Day holiday! Eighteen series of events and 13 standalone activities were hosted, including exhibitions, performances, bazaars, family-friendly experiences, and more. The district's attractions—including six rated scenic spots, Lianghong and Daxigang wetland parks, Meili Ancient Town, 1969 Creative Block and Meihuali Wuyueshuijie Shopping Center—collectively welcomed 1.41 million visitors.
