The New Protein Biomanufacturing Innovation Center of China's State Development and Investment Group was officially launched on Feb 5 in WND. Focused on synthetic biology, the center aims to drive industrial breakthroughs and boost Wuxi's biomanufacturing ecosystem.
On Feb 4, the last day of the Spring Festival holiday, WND kicked off the Chinese New Year with a conference on building itself into a world-class sci-tech zone and outlining plans for investment and talent attraction in 2025. With a strong push for early action, the district is set to accelerate major projects and drive high-quality development.
Since the beginning of this year, 15 major projects have broken ground in WND, including three ahead of schedule. In 2025, the district plans to advance 10 provincial level and 53 municipal-level key projects, with a total planned investment of 71.91 billion yuan ($9.87 billion) and 129.31 billion yuan, respectively. Twenty-nine projects worth 16.64 billion yuan are set to commence construction in the first quarter.
The Taibo Temple Fair lit up Meili Ancient Town in WND on Feb 6 with a vibrant folk parade blending tradition and modern trends as well as a festive market featuring many unique stalls. Over 100,000 visitors, including expats, joined the joyful celebration. Major media outlets like China Daily, Jiaohuidian News, Yangtze Evening Post, Modern Express, and Wuxi Daily covered the event, adding to the excitement.
Thinkgo IoT in WND has recently been recognized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology for digital technology application. Its electronic label technology for smart garment scheduling is the only case from Wuxi to be selected.
The Bodu River Cultural Center has successfully completed its pre-acceptance inspection! Covering 19,575 square meters, it includes a cultural hall, a library, an art museum, commercial spaces, offices, and underground parking. All exterior, interior and landscaping work has been completed.
During the Spring Festival holiday, WND leveraged its strengths as a filming location for CMG's Spring Festival Gala to host a variety of cultural and tourism activities, driving a surge in consumption. Thirteen shopping centers in the district attracted more than 2.2 million visitors and saw sales exceed 120 million yuan ($16.47 million). Local tourist sites welcomed 1.61 million visitors, marking a 25 percent year-on-year increase.
