In celebration of the 24th World Intellectual Property Day on April 26, Wuxi National Hi-Tech District held the launch event for its 2024 intellectual property rights promotion week on April 23. The event marks the beginning of a series of activities aimed at promoting IP awareness and fostering a culture of innovation within the district.

Throughout the week, the district, also known as Wuxi New District, will host a variety of engaging activities. For example, the district's IP authorities, in collaboration with the WND development and reform commission, will conduct a training session for innovative companies aiming to go public, providing guidance on IP-related issues.

Additionally, expert-led sessions with the local court will delve into patent infringement cases, discussing methodologies for determining infringement. Law enforcement officers will also be invited to conduct training sessions for business owners, emphasizing the importance of protecting consumer rights.

During the launch event, WND also announced new incentive measures to encourage the cultivation, protection, application, service, and management of intellectual property. The maximum reward for a single item has been set at 1 million yuan ($137,986).

In 2023, WND achieved significant milestones in the field of intellectual property. It reported 2,539 newly authorized invention patents, accounting for 21.6 percent of the city's total. Additionally, 296 new Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) applications were submitted, representing nearly half of the city's total. The number of valid invention patents per 10,000 people reached 183.6, which was 2.5 times higher than the city average.
