The groundbreaking ceremony of the Taihuwan Innovation Base of the Wuxi International Life Science Innovation Park was held in Wuxi National Hi-tech District on Dec 10.
The second phase of the Taihuwan Innovation Base will cover an area of 6.67 acres with a planned construction area of 320,000 square meters. It will focus on the development of areas such as international standard drugs, device research and development, life science big data, bio-intelligent manufacturing, digital medicine and intelligent diagnosis.
In addition, agreements for 35 projects involving the biomedical industry were signed at the ceremony. With a total investment of 33.9 billion yuan ($5.32 billion), the projects involve things such as antibody conjugates, special foods, high-end medical devices, online hospitals, and industrial special funds.
Officials have said that the new projects are expected to be new driving forces for the high-quality development of the biomedical industry in Wuxi.
In 2020, the total scale of the biomedical industry in WND reached 62.5 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 17.3 percent and accounting for 55 percent of Wuxi's biomedical industry.
