Wuxi eyes development in healthcare industry

The local government of Wuxi hosted a meeting with experts and scholars in the healthcare industry on Dec 5.

Zhao Jijianjun, acting mayor of Wuxi, talked with Ning Guang, president of Ruijin Hospital of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and an academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Jiang Jiandong of the Institute of Materia Medica and Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and an academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Zhao said that Wuxi is innovative and has a solid industrial foundation that makes it an attractive place to live and work. The city is working to promote the high-quality development of medical and health services and the biomedical industry.

Zhao added that by taking advantage of its research and development capabilities and talents brought by the research team of Ning and Jiang, the city will support the construction of research institutes and workstations to create a new benchmark for integrated cooperation in the Yangtze River Delta in the medical and health field, as well as improve the quality of medical and health services in the city.

Ning said that since the opening of the Wuxi branch of Ruijin Hospital in March 2019, it has gradually become a pioneer in the development of integrated medical and health care in the Yangtze River Delta by linking the high-quality medical resources of Shanghai Ruijin Hospital and promoting homogeneous management.

Jiang said he was optimistic about cooperation with Wuxi in jointly building a medical research platform and enhancing R&D capabilities for new drugs.
