District promoting its public cultural service

(China Daily)Updated: 2019-03-11

Wuxi Xinwu district has been actively developing its public cultural service with a package of programs.

Local officials said the district has been improving the network of public cultural facilities, and building a "10-minute walk cultural circle" based on the economic and social development prospects and the urban functions of Xinwu, as well as its population's concentration and mobility.

Meanwhile, cultural venues and libraries will be built or renovated in the district, and all of the district's town-level cultural centers will reach the national standard. All village-level cultural centers - and the public cultural facilities network - will achieve full coverage and interconnection, according to the local government.

The district will strengthen the construction of public cultural projects, innovate and set up free and open service projects, and boost public participation, officials said.

In improving the effectiveness of public cultural services, the district encourages its cultural venues and libraries to set up more branches at communities, villages and enterprises. In this way, the book resources management and service are also included into the district library. So far, the number of public library books per capita reached 1.2, an increase of 0.05 year-on-year. And the average circulation of a book is more than 1.2 times each year. The district is increasing the free access to its public cultural facilities, promoting the application of the Jiangsu Digital Culture Museum's online platform and enriching its online services.

The district has also made a series of efforts to take the creation of cultural and artworks to a new stage, such as strengthening the guidance of the creation and production of high-quality public cultural works, improving the mechanism of public literary and artistic creation and encouraging and supporting public participation in cultural and artworks creation on a wider scale, including public cultural institutions, cultural enterprises and cultural teams from all sectors of society.

In addition to setting up funds to promote the creation and production of public cultural products, the district also exploits and utilizes excellent cultural resources to launch a number of vivid and exquisite original cultural and artworks.

The district also carries out folk cultural activities so as to enrich residents' cultural life, and launched the Magnolia Cultural Happiness Project. At least 400 of public welfare performances are organized throughout the year.

It also organizes the Xinwu Citizen Cultural Festival, with cultural institutions and enterprises at all levels actively participating, highlighting the cultural charm of the district.
